Someone flew over Ankara: Armenia breaks through isolation

The Near East, the Arab world are a natural habitat for the Armenian people, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said in his interview with Sky News Arabic during his visit to Egypt. He is also going to visit Lebanon.

Armenia “returns” to not only a natural habitat for the Armenian people but also a region which developed and bore for centuries the powerful trace of the Armenian civilization. Not only does Armenia return but also re-assumes responsibility in the Greater Near East.

The fights in Tavush overlapped with new and determined developments in the Near East which have two directions: reconciliation of the Arab countries and Israel and formation of anti-Turkish alliances in the Eastern Mediterranean or rather the Armenian gulf. Turkey’s reaction was strong to Yerevan’s statement on supporting Armenia and Cyprus in the Armenian gulf and after the fights in Tavush it announced about “dissolving” and replacing Azerbaijan with itself.

Yerevan announced that in a new situation new formats for containing Turkey are needed and launched this policy, the first illustration of which was the first visit of the foreign minister of Egypt and is meetings with the top government of this country.

This visit was widely covered by the international and Arabic world press, and as always, did not get an adequate coverage in the Armenian press which prioritizes other topics. Experts note that this visit marks the beginning of a new strategy in the foreign policy of Armenia. Earlier in this region Armenia was conducting a policy of “isolation”, perhaps considering that it is better to keep away from this knot of complicated and multi-vector international interests not to cause more trouble. However, it is well-known that when you do not deal with the Near East, the Near East deals with you, considering both direct neighborhood and the Armenian issue being one of the cores of these complicated interests, which is used in the arsenal of all great powers to one intensity or another.

Besides, the policy of isolation conducted by Turkey and the Apsheronian administration towards Armenia has added to the intention to connect the Karabakh issue with the Kurdish issue, which is already being implemented at the level of propaganda. On the one hand, this is a political “present” to the Armenian side. On the other, this is a serious challenge which could be neutralized by way of creating opportunities for maneuver in the region.

The flight of the foreign minister over the Armenian Angora (currently Ankara) breaks through decades of isolation of Armenia from its natural habitat and scope of responsibility. It follows the establishment of the Armenian contingent in Syria, completing the Armenian political-military presence in the Near East, which definitely opens up opportunities for diplomatic maneuvers in all directions of international politics.
